Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C. is a strong supporter of the arts in Schenectady. Citizens rich in the fine arts, music, and theater are a fundamental part of what makes a great community, and Schenectady has much to offer in this regard. As part of our commitment to this principle, we invite local artists to show their work in one of our spacious board rooms, which has been modified to accommodate these showings with a professional look. There is a new artist and new exhibit every three months, so we invite you to come early to your appointment and enjoy what the artist of our region have to offer!
We are currently featuring the work of Erik Laffer, originally of Smithtown, NY, and after many travels, currently calls Schuylerville home. Mr. Laffer's artistic medium is painting, and he is one of the members of the renowned "Oakroom Artists." While he has worked with landscapes and figurative paintings in the past, his current project - the Cartography Series - has many people taking notice, and we are very pleased to be showing selections from this Series in our office until the end of June.
From the Artist's Statement: "My goal with the Cartography paintings is to, as J.B. Harley writes, "redescribe the world," or at least the small world of Erik Laffer. And just as there is a language of mapmaking, there is style and body of symbols in my paintings that define the landscape of each work and identify my struggle to understand self, family, home, and culture: boats, clocks, buildings, bridges, anatomy, arrows, and among many others, lines, color and texture. I believe there is great value in history and charting where we have been and where we are going. And this is what my Cartography Series represents."
