Bidding a Fond Farewell to a Historic Law Practice
After an historic 185 years in business, the law firm of Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C. will be closing. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve you, and the trust you’ve placed in the attorneys and staff.
The firm has played instrumental roles in the lives of Schenectady-area residents and institutions since David Cady Smith hung his shingle in 1837. Our attorneys were there at the creation of the Schenectady Savings Bank, the Schenectady Gazette, and the Schenectady Trust Company; have been trusted advisors for Union College, the Schenectady and Capital Region Chambers of Commerce, Trustco Bank, Ingersoll Place, Annie Schaffer Senior Center, Schenectady Metroplex, New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, and many others; and have actively participated as board members for countless not-for-profits. Our attorneys have elevated the regional practice of law, particularly in the firm’s primary areas of focus – real estate, and trusts and estates law.
The firm would like to acknowledge our gratitude to the attorneys upon whose shoulders we stand: David Cady Smith, Everett Smith, NYS Sen. Edwin Miller, Hon. James Houlihan, Harold Beyerl, Frank Higgins, Edward Beyerl, Richard Roberts, Robert Coan, James Erceg, Hon. Barry D. Kramer and D.A. Robert Carney.
The firm would also like to acknowledge our gratitude to our managing shareholder, Michael Suprunowicz. Since Mike entered the profession in 1980, he has unceasingly pursued excellence in the practice of trusts and estates law and has earned a distinguished reputation that’s been a credit to the firm for over 40 years. The number of people from all walks of life who have benefitted from his teaching, advice and counsel is vast. Thank you, Mike, for all you’ve accomplished for the firm.
While the firm may be closing its doors, our legacy will survive through two of our shareholders. Larry DeAngelus is taking his 23 years of trust and estate and real estate experience with Higgins, Roberts and Suprunowicz to the growing law firm of DeAngelus Goralczyk, PLLC (DG Law). Larry’s new team will be working out of DG’s new Schenectady-based satellite office, and can be reached at [email protected].
Additionally, Charles J. Assini, Jr. will be continuing his practice as Assini Law, representing the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., as well as other physicians and physician groups, and consulting on matters of higher education law. Attorney Assini may be reached at [email protected].
All original Wills, Trusts and other estate planning documents will be located at DG Law.
More information will be posted on the HRS Facebook Page as well as the DG Law Facebook page as it becomes available.
